OSVITA Director
The OSVITA Director, in consultation with the Executive Director, shall be responsible for all aspects of the OSVITA program. This includes marketing and advertising, applying for grants and developing new fundraising initiatives for the long-term financial sustainability of the program, and overseeing a team of counselors and teachers to provide a superior level of programming, both in the classroom and during evenings and weekends. While planning for the summer program, the OSVITA director will be responsible for bookings and programming arrangements in Edmonton as well as, in consultation with the tour organizer, the Ukraine travel component. While the program is running, the OSVITA Director is responsible for presenting a high quality program that involves all students and staff in a safe, fun and educational environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Serve on a committee that will hire all OSVITA staff.
  2. In consultation with the Executive Director, plan all aspects of the OSVITA program including scheduling, excursions, and religious, cultural and sport programming.
  3. In consultation with the trip organizer, ensure that all aspects of the travel component are planned, scheduled and within budget.
  4. Responsible for working within the budget established by the St. John’s Institute Board of Directors.
  5. Organize and lead a pre-camp ‘Travel Information’ night for parents and students and staff travelling to Ukraine.
  6. Plan and organize a pre-camp training session for staff, as well as coordinating wrap-up week duties and tasks.
  7. Maintain accurate records of all facets of the OSVITA program, including inventories of program equipment, reports and evaluations of the quality of the program and staff, incident/accident report forms, finances and enrolment.
  8. Ensure positive and thorough communication with parents.
  9. Oversee and guide staff during pre-camp training, during the program and during wrap-up, as required. This includes regular staff meetings to evaluate program quality and to make adjustments as necessary.
  10. Consult with the Principal and teachers to prepare appropriate materials/topics to be covered.
  11. Ensure all staff perform their duties in a safe, responsible and effective manner and discipline as necessary.
  12. Ensure student safety, and full participation in the program.
  13. Responsible for student discipline.
  14. Assign cultural programming activities to counsellors and guest instructors and teach part of the cultural program if necessary.
  15. Reside at St. John's Institute for the duration of the program.
  16. Travel to Ukraine is required.

Qualifications:

  1. Completion of at least one year of post secondary education.
  2. Current First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.
  3. A valid driver’s license is preferred.
  4. Fluency in both Ukrainian and English is required.
  5. Strong organizational, supervisory and interpersonal skills are required.
  6. Experience working with youth, preferably ages 14-17, is required.
  7. Experience in educational and/or camp setting an asset.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work with budgets is required.
