Explore Ukraine: Ukrainian Festival Artwork Display

From November 18-22, St. John’s Institute played host to a Ukrainian Student Artwork exhibit as part of Alberta Education’s International Education Week. Students from Edmonton’s Ukrainian bilingual programs and Grade 3 Social Studies students were invited to tour the exhibit and experience a hands-on afternoon of learning about Ukrainian culture.

The exhibit showcased perspectives on Ukraine through the eyes of a child. Students who visited to view the artwork were also to stories and lectures about Ukrainian history, language, traditions and celebrations. They were also involved in activities such as colouring a pysanka (a Ukrainian Easter egg), writing their names in Ukrainian, and labeling a map of Ukraine.

Many thanks to Alberta Education and Olena Hartsula for arranging this exhibit! We had a lovely time meeting all of the eager students and are honoured to have been involved in this project to raise awareness of Ukrainian education.
